At first glance, the entire concept of Jewish outreach may seem preposterous. The Yeshiva student may wonder to himself: “What am I trying to do? How can I influence a world I know nothing about? If a Jew’s purpose is to grow in righteousness then I belong back in Yeshiva!”

But when you penetrate Torah’s core, you realize that such “righteousness” is not the end goal… Instead, you enter a Divine space where the purpose of climbing higher is to reach down lower; where the scholar’s job is not to build ivory towers, but to tear them down; where the love of G-d does not compel you to run away from this world, but toward it; and where the greatest saint and greatest simpleton share one and the same purpose: to become a true Baal Teshuva.
