Later on in life Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov began the ?Chasidic revolution,? changing the face of Judaism forever. One hundred years later, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov's successor, was arrested by Czar Paul I for fomenting revolution within Jewish society. After his vindication and release, his intellectual Chasidic system, known as Chabad, took on deeper expression, attracting the elite of Jewish scholarship. One hundred years ago, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneersohn of Lubavitch, also known as the ?Maimonides of Chasidic Thought,? founded the Chabad-Lubavitch Yeshiva system, ensconcing the philosophy of his forebears in a thematic system. Close to fifty years ago, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson of Lubavitch undertook a worldwide effort to touch the life of every Jew, and to affect the morals of all humanity, with the depth and warmth of Chasidic teaching. In honor of the triple-centennial, award-winning filmmaker Elliot Caplan sets out with a group of international scholars from several disciplines of Judaic Studies, to learn about the evolution of Chasidism.
